The rubric item describes the reason why a student is receiving points or losing points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-89843b1b wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"border-radius:8px;background-color:#96299e;padding-top:8px;padding-right:8px;padding-bottom:8px;padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-not-stacked-on-mobile is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-133cf375 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"padding-right:0;padding-left:0;flex-basis:8%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\" style=\"margin-right:0;margin-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.elearning.fse.manchester.ac.uk\/getting-started-with-canvas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2024\/12\/info.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1042\" style=\"object-fit:cover;width:30px;height:30px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:92%\">\n<p class=\"has-base-5-color has-base-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color has-x-small-font-size wp-elements-af445bc9b3826fb8ce6606a52bf23d89\" style=\"border-top-right-radius:8px;border-bottom-right-radius:8px;padding-top:8px;padding-right:20px;padding-bottom:8px;padding-left:20px\"><strong>IMPORTANT:<\/strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Rubric items are shared among all students for that question, so any changes made to rubric items during grading will affect all previously graded students.&nbsp; (If you change the point value or description of a single rubric item, the change applies to <strong>all<\/strong> students).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Once marking is completed and grades have been published via Gradescope, students will be able to see any rubric items applied to the submission as part of a feedback report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-da79a4a7 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\" style=\"border-bottom-color:var(--wp--preset--color--base-2);border-bottom-width:2px;padding-top:10px;padding-bottom:10px\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-base-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ccf097fae29c288e186152b46e25e5be\" id=\"managing-submissions\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0\"><strong>Managing Submissions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>managing submissions <\/strong>screen in Gradescope provides an overview of which students have submitted, including any late submissions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the relevant course unit, locate the assignment and open it to launch the <strong>Gradescope Dashboard.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the relevant assignment within the Gradescope Dashboard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate to the <strong>Managing submissions<\/strong> screen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Within this screen you can delete or upload a submission on behalf of a student. Bear in mind that students can re-submit work at any time up to the due date. If you are using anonymous submissions for your assignment, Gradescope will generate a random code, which will show in place of the students name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-da79a4a7 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\" style=\"border-bottom-color:var(--wp--preset--color--base-2);border-bottom-width:2px;padding-top:10px;padding-bottom:10px\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-base-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-cc909fca7283ad405081dc173c28d746\" id=\"grading-submissions\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0\"><strong>Grading submissions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Once students have submitted, you can start to grade work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the relevant course unit space, click on the relevant assignment link to open Gradescope. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, within Gradescope choose <strong>Grade submissions<\/strong> from the left menu panel to show the <strong>grading dashboard<\/strong> for the assignment that you need to grade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>grading dashboard<\/strong> will display your question outline, total points available for each question and a summary of grading progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.teachingcollege.fse.manchester.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/GS-Grading-Dashboard.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6236\" style=\"width:899px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To begin grading, click the question that you wish to grade to open a new screen containing student submissions for that question.\u00a0 On the bottom menu panel you&#8217;ll see which submission you are currently viewing eg. 1 of X.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on full page or use the magnifying class icons to change the view of the submission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Example submission:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.teachingcollege.fse.manchester.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/GS-Grading-submissions-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6237\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To start grading, click on the number of the rubric item that you want to apply.&nbsp; Gradescope will save each rubric item that you select and the total points tally will update as you apply rubric items.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-89843b1b wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"border-radius:8px;background-color:#faba25;padding-top:8px;padding-right:8px;padding-bottom:8px;padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-not-stacked-on-mobile is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-133cf375 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"padding-right:0;padding-left:0;flex-basis:8%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\" style=\"margin-right:0;margin-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.elearning.fse.manchester.ac.uk\/getting-started-with-canvas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2024\/12\/light-bulb.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1110\" style=\"object-fit:cover;width:35px;height:35px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:92%\">\n<p class=\"has-base-5-color has-base-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color has-x-small-font-size wp-elements-078e0d18694209cd36e6463f222ccb30\" style=\"border-top-right-radius:8px;border-bottom-right-radius:8px;padding-top:8px;padding-right:20px;padding-bottom:8px;padding-left:20px\"><strong>WARNING!<\/strong>: Gradescope will allow another member of staff to change and overwrite a rubric statement that you have applied. Gradescope does not retain an audit trail of changes, but will display the initials of staff who have graded a question via the grading dashboard<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the <strong>subject specific adjustments <\/strong> section, if you would like to enter overall feedback comments for the student you are grading.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once you have entered comments Gradescope will store those comments and they will be available to use as previously used comments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.teachingcollege.fse.manchester.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/GS-Grading-right-panel.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6280\" style=\"width:304px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To annotate directly onto the students submission, hover your mouse to reveal the annotation tools (navigation tool, text tool, pencil tool etc).\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>navigation tool<\/strong> will help you place annotations in the right spot by allowing you to click and drag to move around a student&#8217;s submission.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>text tool<\/strong> allows you to type comments directly on the submission.&nbsp; After selecting the text tool, click anywhere on the page to add anchored text to that spot.&nbsp; Or to quickly add text from the navigation tool, just double click on the page.&nbsp; Text annotations will be autosaved and can be reused.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The&nbsp;<strong>pencil tool<\/strong> allows you to mark freeform on the submission.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The&nbsp;<strong>box tool<\/strong> allows you to boxes by clicking and dragging to create rectangles on top of the submission.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The&nbsp;<strong>eraser tool<\/strong> allows you to click on any annotation to remove it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To link a text comment to a rubric item, click on the text tool, next click on the area of the document you wish to annotate. A new box will appear (select the chosen rubric item), then click on comments and add your comment. Any annotations linked to rubric items will be indicated underneath the rubric item on the right of the screen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.teachingcollege.fse.manchester.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/GS-Rubric-item-and-annotation.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6281\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Once you have finished grading the submission, click <strong>Next Ungraded&nbsp;<\/strong>(use this option to ensure that you don&#8217;t begin grading work that another colleague may be grading).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-da79a4a7 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\" style=\"border-bottom-color:var(--wp--preset--color--base-2);border-bottom-width:2px;padding-top:10px;padding-bottom:10px\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-base-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-331319b259b9d95734ba072a67854f54\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0\">Review Grades<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Once all grading is completed, the next stage in the grading process is to <strong>Review Grades.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The review grades screen provides an overview of graded work and allows you to check grades and feedback for individual students. To do that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the relevant course unit space, click on the relevant assignment link to open Gradescope. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, choose <strong>Review grades<\/strong> from the left menu panel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on a student name or pseudonym (if anonymous marking is enabled), to access a student&#8217;s full submission, including full grades and feedback.&nbsp; &nbsp; (You can also download a copy of the individual submission and view the student&#8217;s submission history).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also use the menu options within this screen to download grades, export evaluations or submissions, post grades to your course unit space and publish grades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-da79a4a7 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\" style=\"border-bottom-color:var(--wp--preset--color--base-2);border-bottom-width:2px;padding-top:10px;padding-bottom:10px\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-base-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4c189743aee4e2e572dfaa670edbf8da\" id=\"release-grades\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0\"><strong>Releasing feedback and grades<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Grades can be published (in Gradescope) and released (to Canvas Gradebook) from the&nbsp;<strong>Review Grades<\/strong>&nbsp;screen in Gradescope. The process you follow will depend on what information you would like students to be able to access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Publishing the full marked paper<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you would like students to see their full graded papers, you will need to&nbsp;<strong>publish grades within Gradescope<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>publish the assignment link within Canvas<\/strong>, to enable students to access Gradescope to view their paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the relevant assignment in Canvas to launch&nbsp;<strong>Gradescope<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once Gradescope launches, open the relevant assignment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, select&nbsp;<strong>Review grades<\/strong>&nbsp;from the left menu panel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select\u00a0<strong>Publish Grades<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"54\" Canvas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Publishing final grade<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you wish to share the final overall mark with students via Canvas, you will first need to publish the assignment in Canvas and then go to Gradescope and post the grades from Gradescope to Canvas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the relevant assignment in Canvas to launch&nbsp;<strong>Gradescope<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once Gradescope launches, open the relevant assignment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, select&nbsp;<strong>Review grades<\/strong>&nbsp;from the left menu panel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the&nbsp;<strong>Review grades&nbsp;<\/strong>screen select&nbsp;<strong>Post Grades to GradeScope<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img to.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Post Grades<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once grades are posted, go to the&nbsp;<strong>Grades<\/strong>&nbsp;screen in Canvas to verify that the grades have transferred as expected.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once you are ready to release grades, find the relevant assignment in the Grades screen, click the (\u2026) and choose&nbsp;<strong>Post grades<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-89843b1b easiest way to do that is to un-grade one question within the submission.&nbsp; Check the Review Grades page to make sure that the graded checkmark is greyed out for the affected student, before
