First <strong>uploading the scans<\/strong> and then <strong>managing submissions<\/strong> to identify any papers which have not been automatically associated with students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1: Managing scans<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gradescope recommends a <strong>maximum of 50 to 80 submissions per pdf upload<\/strong>. Therefore, for large groups we recommend that you scan papers in several smaller batches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To upload scans follow the instructions below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the relevant course unit, locate the assignment and open it to launch the <strong>Gradescope Dashboard.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the relevant assignment within the Gradescope Dashboard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next click <strong>Manage Scans<\/strong> and then <strong>Select PDF Files<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Locate and upload your files.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gradescope will process the files, splitting each file into a separate page and matching submissions to each student.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-89843b1b wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"border-radius:8px;background-color:#faba25;padding-top:8px;padding-right:8px;padding-bottom:8px;padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-not-stacked-on-mobile is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-133cf375 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"padding-right:0;padding-left:0;flex-basis:8%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\" style=\"margin-right:0;margin-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.elearning.fse.manchester.ac.uk\/getting-started-with-canvas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2024\/12\/light-bulb.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1110\" style=\"object-fit:cover;width:35px;height:35px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:92%\">\n<p class=\"has-base-5-color has-base-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color has-x-small-font-size wp-elements-b52ec50fa49d226eace2ed0917f7df4a\" style=\"border-top-right-radius:8px;border-bottom-right-radius:8px;padding-top:8px;padding-right:20px;padding-bottom:8px;padding-left:20px\">TIP: Check that the number of answer sheets matches your class register.  If an exams have taken place in multiple rooms then you can scan and upload additional papers as you receive them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 2: Managing submissions and matching unassigned papers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Manage Submissions<\/strong> screen shows an overview of students on the course. We recommend that you check and match any unassigned papers before grading begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Manage Submissions screen in Gradescope you will see:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Number of submissions (answer sheets uploaded)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>X\/X Students Have Not Been Matched<\/strong> (click on this link to view a list of relevant students). &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>All, Autoassigned and Unsassigned.&nbsp; <\/strong>Click on these options to filter the answer sheets shown.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can also use the <strong>Search by name <\/strong>field to search using a student name or student ID number.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.teachingcollege.fse.manchester.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Bubble-sheet-unsassigned-student-summary.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11944\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Screenshot of menu options in Manage Scans screen<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow the steps below to match any unassigned papers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on <strong>Unassigned <\/strong>to see a list of any answer sheets that Gradescope has been unable to match.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under <strong>Name &amp; ID region<\/strong>, you will see a preview of the Name and ID number of the answer sheet.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.teachingcollege.fse.manchester.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Bubble-Sheet-unassigned-show-details.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11942\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Image of Name &amp; ID region<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check the name shown in the preview.&nbsp; If you wish to view the full paper click on the icon shown above to (<strong>View Page<\/strong>) or <strong>Show Details.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To assign a paper.&nbsp; Click on the <strong>Enter student name <\/strong>field.&nbsp; You can search using the dropdown list or by typing in a student name or ID number.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once you\u2019ve located the correct record click on the name to assign it.&nbsp; The name selected will appear alongside the paper.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you accidentally selected the wrong name or ID use the <strong>pencil Edit icon<\/strong> to change an assigned student.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-da79a4a7 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\" style=\"border-bottom-color:var(--wp--preset--color--base-2);border-bottom-width:2px;padding-top:10px;padding-bottom:10px\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-base-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d8922df2a0524d5f9c2baa3f51212f0d\" id=\"grading-papers\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0\"><strong>Grading Papers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Gradescope will automatically grade bubble sheet assignments as soon as answer sheets are uploaded and matched to students. However, staff will still need to review and confirm <strong>uncertain marks<\/strong> via <strong>Grade Submissions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-89843b1b wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"border-radius:8px;background-color:#96299e;padding-top:8px;padding-right:8px;padding-bottom:8px;padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-not-stacked-on-mobile is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-133cf375 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"padding-right:0;padding-left:0;flex-basis:8%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\" style=\"margin-right:0;margin-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small)\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.elearning.fse.manchester.ac.uk\/getting-started-with-canvas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2024\/12\/info.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1042\" style=\"object-fit:cover;width:30px;height:30px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:92%\">\n<p class=\"has-base-5-color has-base-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color has-x-small-font-size wp-elements-086f5da719f0273f44342c2900002055\" style=\"border-top-right-radius:8px;border-bottom-right-radius:8px;padding-top:8px;padding-right:20px;padding-bottom:8px;padding-left:20px\">Uncertain marks typically occur when a student has cross out or marked more than one answer.  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To check for uncertain marks and grade submissions follow the steps below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the relevant assignment in Canvas to launch <strong>Gradescope<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once Gradescope launches, open the relevant assignment from the Gradescope dashboard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, select <strong>Grade Submissions<\/strong> from the left menu panel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend that you review marks on a question by question basis, which makes it easier to save your marking progress.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on the <strong>Uncertain marks <\/strong>link next to the relevant question to open a list of uncertain marks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gradescope will display a preview of all uncertain marks for the selected question.   <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Underneath the preview an answer bubble will be completed, indicating what Gradescope assumes the student&#8217;s intended answer is.   If Gradescope has incorrectly interpreted the student&#8217;s answer staff can click to select\/deselect the assigned answer so it matches the student&#8217;s paper.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If staff need to access the full submission they can click on the <strong>View page icon<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once answers are all checked, click <strong>Confirm All Marks.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will return to the grading dashboard, where you can see that the marking has been updated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-da79a4a7 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\" style=\"border-bottom-color:var(--wp--preset--color--base-2);border-bottom-width:2px;padding-top:10px;padding-bottom:10px\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-base-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2ba5ca1191d43efb32fee57ef238a797\" id=\"review-grades\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0\"><strong>Reviewing <\/strong>Grades<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The review grades screen provides an overview of graded work.  In this screen you can check grades, access statistical information on grading, download summary data and choose options to release grades to your students.  To access the <strong>Review Grades<\/strong> screen follow the steps below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the relevant assignment in Canvas to launch <strong>Gradescope<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once Gradescope launches, open the relevant assignment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, select <strong>Review grades<\/strong> from the left menu panel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can use the <strong>search <\/strong>box to search for an individual by name or student ID number.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on an individual student name to view that student&#8217;s full submission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Download Grades<\/strong> option provides a breakdown of student responses by question, summarising the student&#8217;s total score for the paper and points scored for each question.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Download Responses <\/strong>option provides a full breakdown of student responses for each question (including what letter(s) they answered), alongside the correct response, question point weighting and points scored for each question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-da79a4a7 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\" style=\"border-bottom-color:var(--wp--preset--color--base-2);border-bottom-width:2px;padding-top:10px;padding-bottom:10px\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-base-2-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3fdcda75c24b91b0f1cad05d2c7660b9\" id=\"release-grades\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0\"><strong>Releasing grades<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Grades can be published (in Gradescope) and released (to Canvas Gradebook) from the <strong>Review Grades<\/strong> screen in Gradescope.
