Note:<\/strong> Canvas and Outlook aren\u2019t fully connected. If your Canvas notifications are turned on, you\u2019ll also see messages in your University Outlook inbox. But if you reply from Outlook, your response won\u2019t appear in your Canvas \u201cSent\u201d folder. To avoid confusion, it\u2019s best to keep replies consistent and respond in the same place you received the message.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\nAnnouncements<\/strong> \u2013 Announcements are messages posted by your instructors to the whole class. They\u2019re often used for important updates, reminders, and course information. You\u2019ll find them in the Announcements<\/em> area of each course.<\/p>\n\n\n\nWith Announcements, you can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nRead updates from your instructors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n Reply to an announcement (if your instructor has enabled replies).<\/li>\n\n\n\n Like other students\u2019 replies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n Mention classmates in your reply (if enabled).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n

Viewing messages in the Inbox<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\nTo view your messages, click Inbox<\/strong> from the purple global navigation menu. <\/p>\n\n\n\nThis will open up your inbox. At the top of the Inbox, you\u2019ll find tools to help you manage your messages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\nCourse filter:<\/strong> choose to view messages from all courses or a specific course.<\/li>\n\n\n\nMessage filter:<\/strong> switch between Inbox, Unread, Starred, Sent, Archived, or Submission Comments.<\/li>\n\n\n\nSearch bar:<\/strong> find messages by typing keywords, course names, or user names.<\/li>\n\n\n\nAction buttons:<\/strong> reply, reply all, archive, or delete.<\/li>\n\n\n\nCompose:<\/strong> start a new message.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n\n
View Announcements in Canvas<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n1.Go into the course where you want to check updates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
2.In the left-hand course navigation menu, click Announcements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n3.This will open the Announcements page for that course as shown below.<\/p>\n\n\n\nHere you\u2019ll see:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nA list of announcements (newest at the top).<\/li>\n\n\n\n Options to search, filter, or mark all as read.<\/li>\n\n\n\n The full announcement message and a reply option (if enabled).<\/li>\n\n\n\n Tools to manage announcements \u2014 e.g. filter all\/unread with the drop-down menu, or search by keywords in the titles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n

Features of the Announcements Page<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\nWhen you open an announcement, the announcement page as shown below is divided into three main parts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nToolbar<\/strong> \u2013 tools for searching, filtering, sorting, and changing the view.<\/li>\n\n\n\nAnnouncement<\/strong> \u2013 the instructor\u2019s post.<\/li>\n\n\n\nReplies<\/strong> \u2013 any responses from students (if enabled).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\nThe Toolbar<\/strong> is always pinned to the top of the page. An example is shown below:<\/p>\n\n\n\nThe toolbar includes options such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nSplit screen<\/strong> \u2013 view the announcement and replies side by side.<\/li>\n\n\n\nCollapse\/Expand threads<\/strong> \u2013 hide or show full conversations.<\/li>\n\n\n\nFilter menu<\/strong> \u2013 choose to see all replies<\/em> or only unread replies<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\nSearch bar<\/strong> \u2013 find replies by keyword or author.<\/li>\n\n\n\nSort menu<\/strong> \u2013 display replies by newest or oldest first.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\nthree dots<\/strong> at the announcement level and it allows you to mark the message as read\/unread.<\/p>\n\n\n\nthree dots<\/strong> next to a reply (see screenshot below).<\/p>\n\n\n\nThis menu allows you to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
