    Finding a Resource<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    The first step in importing a resource is to find it in the Commons library<\/strong>. When you open the Commons<\/strong> link from the global navigation menu, you will be taken to the Commons dashboard<\/strong>. By default, you will see all Commons resources that are currently available for you to download.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If you are looking for a specific resource, you can use the search box<\/strong> to filter by title, name, institution, or tag<\/strong>. If you know who uploaded the resource, you can also search using their name. Additionally, you can sort resources<\/strong>, filter by content type<\/strong>, or find resources shared specifically within your group (if applicable).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Viewing a Resource<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Once you’ve found the resource you want to import, click its title<\/strong> to open the resource details<\/strong> page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You will then see a preview<\/strong> of the resource, allowing you to view its content before importing. If the resource contains multiple content types, such as files, pages, and quizzes<\/strong>, you can toggle between previews using the menu on the left-hand side<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Details<\/strong> tab provides a summary of the resource, including a description<\/strong> and the name of the original author\/uploader<\/strong>. Below this, you’ll find the recommended grade\/level<\/strong> for the content, as well as information on who the resource has been shared with<\/strong>. In the example below, you can see that the resource has been shared with all University of Manchester users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Version Notes<\/strong> tab lists any changes made to the resource<\/strong> since it was originally uploaded (if applicable).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Importing a Resource into my Course<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Once you have found and previewed a resource you want to add to your course, click the “Import\/Download”<\/strong> button on the resource details<\/strong> page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You will then see a list of your courses. Search for and select the course(s)<\/strong> where you want to import the resource, then click “Import into Course”<\/strong>. Alternatively, selecting the “Download”<\/strong> option will save a copy of the resource to your computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Once the import is successful, you will see a confirmation message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To view your imported resource, navigate to the relevant feature area<\/strong> within your selected course(s). For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • If you imported an assignment<\/strong>, go to the Assignments<\/strong> area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      • If you imported a module<\/strong>, go to the Modules<\/strong> area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        When you import a resource from Commons, it retains the published or unpublished status it had when originally shared. If the resource was published<\/strong>, it will import as published<\/strong> in your course. If it was unpublished<\/strong>, it will remain unpublished<\/strong>. Be sure to check its status after importing!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

        Editing Imported Content<\/strong>

        You can now edit the imported content as needed. For example, if you\u2019ve imported an assignment template<\/strong> or a pre-structured page<\/strong>, you can customise the details<\/strong> to fit your course. These edits are independent<\/strong> of the original Commons resource, meaning they won\u2019t sync back<\/strong> to the original version in Commons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Updating an Imported Resource<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

        If you’ve imported a resource from Commons<\/strong> into your course, you’ll receive a notification<\/strong> when the content owner updates and publishes a new version. However, these updates are not applied automatically<\/strong>\u2014you must manually accept them. If you prefer to keep your existing version, you can choose to ignore the update<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        If you have made local edits to an imported resource, accepting an update from the content owner will overwrite your edits – be careful!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

        On the Commons homepage<\/strong>, click the “Updates”<\/strong> tab at the top of the page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Only the instructor who originally imported a resource into a course will receive update notifications. If you\u2019re working with other instructors, consider regularly checking the “Updates”<\/strong> tab in Commons<\/strong> to ensure you’re aware of any available updates for resources that you have imported.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

        On the updates page, you’ll see a list of resources you’ve previously imported that have received updates from the original creator. You can view the resource name<\/strong>, the date and time<\/strong> of the update, and the version notes<\/strong> provided by the creator. You’ll also see which course(s)<\/strong> you\u2019ve imported the resource into and the current version<\/strong> used in your course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Click on the resource name<\/strong> to open the resource details page<\/strong>. Here, you’ll find a full version history<\/strong> along with any update notes<\/strong>. You can also preview the updated version of the resource.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        To apply the update to your course(s), click the “Update” button<\/strong> and confirm. If you prefer to keep your existing version, choose “Dismiss”<\/strong> to ignore the update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
