TLSE Canvas Guidance Hub

Welcome to our Canvas resource page! Here you’ll find a handy collection of written guides put together to support you in your role. These resources are based on the Canvas training sessions we ran in Spring 2025, and have been tailored to suit the needs of Teaching, Learning & Student Experience (TLSE) staff.

These guides explain how to use Canvas Modules and Pages to organise course materials clearly and efficiently.

The links in this section help you manage assignments in Canvas – from setting them up to handling post-submission tasks. You’ll find guidance on accessing grades, submissions, similarity reports and quiz responses, as well as downloading and uploading marks and feedback.

Pre-submission

Post-submission

Academic transcripts distribution

You might need to upload personalised documents into Canvas so each student can securely access their own individual letters or academic transcripts. Guidance on how to do this is provided in the link below.

Retrieving marked student work from Blackbaord

You might need to access student coursework from previous academic years to support moderation and appeals processes. Please note that direct access to work submitted and marked in Blackboard prior to 2025–26 is no longer available. Guidance on how to request access can be found at the link below.

This page below provides essential guidance for staff supporting 2024–25 PGT dissertation submissions via Canvas, within the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Here, you’ll find guides on using groups and tags to organise students, set up group work, manage marking and send targeted messages from Canvas.

Check this guidance to learn how to use Canvas to send announcements and communicate with students effectively.
