Canvas Commons

Canvas Commons is a cross-institutional repository for sharing resources. Users can upload their content to Commons, allowing others to import it into their own course for reuse or create a separate copy to adapt as needed.

Almost all types of content can be shared and reused through Commons, including modules, quizzes, assignments, discussions, pages, documents, videos, images, audio files, and even entire Canvas courses, each of which is represented by its own unique icon.

All staff can access Commons via the global navigation menu on the left-hand side of any Canvas page.

To find specific resources, use the search and filter options. You can search by author or title, as shown below. Resources that have been flagged as ‘University of Manchester Approved’ by content moderators will display a purple check mark in the top left corner.

If you’ve found a resource you’d like to use in your course, follow the guide below for step-by-step instructions on how to import it.

Importing a Canvas Commons Resource

In addition to importing content from Commons, you can share your own resources for others to use. If you’ve created content that you’d like to make available, follow our guide on uploading resources to Commons.
